Meet your licensed local guide on Marshal Tito square in front of Croatian National Theater. Milan Lenuci, a popular Zagreb engineer in the 19th century, designed the green horseshoe that frames the city center. The ”horseshoe” is one of the most significant architectural projects in Zagreb history that determined present urban identity of the town center. The construction began in the 1880’s and lasted until the 1920’s and is considered the biggest urban achievement of Historicist culture in both Zagreb and Croatia. We continue across Mazuranic and Marulic squares towards Botanical garden. Opened in 1890’s, the garden has 10,000 species of plants and plenty of restful corners and paths. A short stroll will take us to a square dedicated to first Croatian king Tomislav. It is dominated by a impressive statue of King Tomislav in the center of a beautiful park, with flowers and benches. A walk through Strossmayer square brings us to the most beautiful park of the horseshoe, park Zrinjevac. In the middle of the park is a music pavilion built in 1891. The park is also a place of various art projects or live concerts, which are held at the pavilion, for the joy and amusement of people passing through. The tour ends at Jelacic square.
