After some free time to enjoy in Grassington the journey continues across the open countryside, past the dramatic cliffs of Kilnsey Crag and wild heather moorlands as you head to Hawes. This old-fashioned market town which is home to the famous Wenselydale Creamery and its terrific Visitor Centre.
You’ll enjoy some leisure time in Hawes, during which you can have lunch in a local tearoom, pub or café and enjoy a tour of the Wenselydale Creamery Visitor. In the early after the tour continues to the Aysgarth Falls, a remarkably beautiful series of low, wide waterfalls which featured in the Hollywood movie ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’.
The next part of the tour passes through the market town of Leyburn and the historic village of Middleham (whose grand castle was once the family home of Richard III). After enjoying photo stops in both Leyburn and Middleham, the tour reaches the small city of Ripon and one of the highlights of the day; the magnificent estate of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Park. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Park is home to the well-preserved ruins of Fountains Abbey, in its day one of the UK’s leading Cistercian Monasteries.
