Visit 3 main archaeological sites of Xpujil, Becán and Chicanná and learn from the local communities as you hear about their sustainable initiatives and then visit a community project to check out handcrafts. Your tour includes transport, refreshments, lunch and a professional guide.After hotel pickup, you'll drive to visit 3 archaeological sites: Xpujil, Becán and Chicanná, and also some communities where you will learn about the local sustainable initiatives that are looking for economical alternatives to offer a responsible use of the natural resources.
Xpujil, Becán and Chicanná are a very good example of the Rio Bec architectural style. You will learn about the Rio Bec region and how it got to influence over Calakmul during the late classic period. Because these sites are surrounded by jungle, there is a high chance to see wildlife while we walk around the ruins.
In the afternoon you will visit visit a community ecotourism project. Walk around a lagoon in the jungle trying to spot crocodiles, learn at the orchid exhibition, and be amused at the “house of the Mayan bee”, where the tradition of harvesting this exotic honey is being saved.
You may also visit 20 de Noviembre, another community where people are specialized in handcrafting with very nice wood work, weaving and knitting. Your tour ends with hotel drop-off.
