Explore the history-rich city of Xi'an and discover why it attracted people of all walks of the world, from emperors and warriors, to poets and monks. Through this tour you'll visit the the UNESCO-listed Terracotta Army, marvel at the ancient city wall, walk through the Muslim Quarter and gaze at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.
Your guide will pick you up at your hotel and transport you to a comfortable private vehicle. En route to see the Terracotta Army, your guide will explain the city's rich history. The Terracotta Warriors and Horses are one of the most significant archaeological excavations of the 20th century, when they were discovered by local farmers in 1974. The army was built as a form of funerary art and was buried with Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, in the third century as a mean to protect the emperor in his afterlife.
After visiting the Terracotta Warriors you're free to explore the rest of the museum, which houses other artifacts and showcases film on the mausoleum's history. At midday, enjoy a tasty lunch at De Fa Chang, one of Xi'an’s most renowned restaurants, and choose from a selection of dumplings and other tasty and authentic regional dishes.
In the afternoon, continue sightseeing by visiting the best Old City sites in Xi’an. Be whisked away to the ancient city wall, one of the oldest and best preserved in all of China. You can marvel at the 9-mile (14-kilometer) long wall or rent a bicycle and bike from one watchtower to the next. First built in the 2nd century BC, this wall is the most complete city wall that has survived throughout all of China, and is one of the largest ancient military defense systems in the world.
Afterward, we will continue to the city’s Muslim Quarter and then the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Built in AD 652 during the Tang Dynasty as a holy place for Buddhists, the pagoda remains an iconic symbol of old Xi’an and houses Buddhist relics and figurines brought from India. After visiting the pagoda, your guide will transport you back to your hotel, concluding the tour.
