On this day trip, you will visit various conservation and rehabilitation centers to learn about efforts to rehabilitate the local wildlife and the methods each center has developed to encourage reentry into the wild. Locations include Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.Get picked up from either your hotel in Sandakan or upon arrival at the Sandakan Airport and head out to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. The center's mission is to rehabilitate injured and orphaned orangutans to full health and hope to reintroduce them to the wild. Learn about the plight of these marvelous creatures and attend a morning feeding. The center itself is very large and covers 43 square km of forest where the animals can freely roam.
After a bit of a hike through the tropical lowland dipterocarp forest, you will visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. This facility strives to improve the living condition of the rescued sun bear and released their natural behaviors in the 2.5ha enclosed forest. This is also the only sun bear center that allows the bears a chance to experience reintroduction to the wild without actually leaving it! This is thanks to its large forest enclosure area.
Take a break for lunch and afterwards, proceed to The Rainforest Discovery Centre where you will get to walk to the steel canopy walk way, plants, orchids garden and many others. Tour ends back at your hotel in Sabah.
