This exciting whitewater rafting tour begins with pickup at your hotel with stops along the way to pick up fellow rafters. Water runs down from the Poas Volcano, so you will raft 13 km (9 miles) through dramatic scenery on your adrenaline-packed ride filled with continuous white-water rapids. Guides choose between the Sarapiqui and Toro rivers each morning based on rapid quality, this allows for the most optimal rafting experience available. Rafting time varies between 2.5 and 3 hours depending on daily water flow changes.
Begin your trek to the river with a 1.5 hour scenic drive that winds through plantations of papaya, pineapple and yucca at the base of Arenal Volcano. Once you reach the “put-in” spot on the river bank, skillful, trained guides will teach you all the safety procedure and prepare you for your paddling responsibilities. Once you are familiar with the commands and safety rules – you are ready to push off and head down river with your experienced guide.
As you wind through spectacular greenery, you might be treated to sights of monkeys, toucans and other tropical wildlife between rapids. At the halfway point you can take a break from paddling. Guides will prepare delicious snacks and tropical fruit on the river bank, so you can refuel in the tropical rain-forest.
After your snack, enjoy more rapids and heart-pumping excitement. At the end of the rafting tour, you will be greeted with an icy beverage and dry towel. Change into dry clothing and enjoy a delicious, typical Costa Rican lunch. Here you can recount the adventure with your fellow rafters. This rafting trip is sure to be the highlight of your Costa Rican vacation. The rafting bus will take you back to your hotel between 3:30 and 4pm.
