Join this wonderful fully guided half-day tour to enjoy a gentle yet spectacular walk followed by a scenic and fun bicycle ride cruising the back roads of Waiheke Island. Guided by an authentic Professional Maori who will share the Maori stories of Waiheke Island. Add on a wine tasting experience and it's surely an opportunity not to be missed. Nau mai, haere mai / Welcome.Your tour begins at Matiatia ferry terminal at 10:15am. You will be met by your guides as you disembark from the ferry.
You'll start your tour with a gentle and incredibly scenic walk along the beach then up through a regenerating native forest. Your walk continues to a headland with views to the north of New Zealand and west to Auckland city. You'll then make your way to your comfortable bicycles. This takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Once on your bicycles, you'll embark on a short 10 minute bike ride passing farms with significant sea views before arriving at the vineyard. Here you will indulge in wine tasting and have time to take in the beauty of your surroundings.
You'll then return to your bicycles and ride to the island's only Marae (Maori gathering place). Your expert Maori guide will explain all the components of the Marae complex including the pohiri (welcoming ceremony).
From here, you will ride your bicycles along the southern shores of Waiheke Island before making your way to the main village (Oneroa). At this village you will find plenty of cafes, restaurants, unique shops, restrooms and a beautiful white sand beach. You may choose to end your tour here as it is a perfect place to stop for lunch (at your own expense).
**For those who wish to return to Matiatia ferry terminal, we will continue to the terminal where you'll arrive around 1:45pm.
