This tour provides a hands-on experience in order to understand the Japanese culture through Japanese sweets (wagashi) and tea in a simple, fun and delicious way.You will be welcomed by an interpreter by the clock tower (Triangle Clock) as you exit the ticket gate at Shinagawa station. A five-minute-ride on the Keikyu train and a short walk will take you to the wagashi making class.
First, the instructor gives you a thorough explanation on how to prepare the sweets of the day. The recipes and the notes in English will also be provided. The instructions are fairly easy to follow.
You are now ready to prepare two to three kinds of seasonal sweets. Start with the dough making, coloring, shaping, and lastly, designing.
The instructor will give you a thorough explanation and example before each step so it shouldn’t be hard to follow. The pieces you make in class are for you to take home later.
A short tea time follows with the sweets that the instructor had previously prepared for you. A bowl of matcha, Japanese green tea, is served with them and the tour ends.
Your interpreter will see you off at the Shinagawa station after the workshop.
