An entertaining live theater show in English about the history, traditions and scandals of Venice. Performed every night of the year this light heated but informative show has been described as a must see event in Venice.Show starts at 7:30pm each evening in the winter and at 8pm from March 1st until October 30th. The theater is open half an hour before for customers to enjoy a drink in the bar and visit the theater shop which sells a large range of Venetian glass and masks. The shop is also open after the show. The show runs for around one hour and twenty minutes.
It is a light heated show taking the form of the audience joining a family of costumiers (played by the cast) as they prepare for one of the greatest parties the city has ever seen. As they prepare the costume for their client they argue like all good families and entertain each other and the audience with their stories of the cities past and the clients that have passed through the doors of their ancient family business over the years. They take the audience on an amusing journey through the great story of this great city from its beginning as a few small islands in the middle of the lagoon to its position of the center of world trade.
The show includes information about the well known characters from Venetian history such as Marco Polo and Vivaldi as well as a lot of lesser known information and stories about many others including the infamous Casanova and the disgraced Doge Falier. The story is told by a live cast of four actors, most of which come to perform in the show as guests from England and London's West End theater. The show is performed in English in front of wonderful surround projections that provide an endless moving backdrop illuminating the casts stories as they are telling them, with both still and movie images that show the great works of art, architecture and filmed sequences that take the story forward.
The show is a hugely enjoyable way for audiences to discover the fascinating background to many of the traditions of the city and its great celebrations including the world famous Venice Carnival. One of the most repeated comments by audience members on leaving the theater is, "what a great show, we wish we had seen it on our first night here".
There are audio guides for those that may need language assistance in Italian, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Chinese.
