Venetian craftsmen tour. Visit the workshops of the city's master craftsmen.This tour will take you to the exclusive Venetian Atelier and show you how the most famous traditional products are created. Over the centuries Venice has provided superior quality handmade products that were exported all over the world for the use of the privileged few. Today, the word “Venice” still conjures up an atmosphere of sensuous luxury, sophisticated elegance and a myriad of a joyful tactile and visual sensations. Far from the beaten tracks, you will discover the “pearls” of Venice's top handcraft traditions of velvet, brocades, marbleized paper, books and leather bindings, Papier-mâché Carnival masks, gold and silver jewellery, beads and other wonders.
You will enter a shop that produces paper mâché for the Venetian carnival where you can admire some examples of this artigianal mastery, nowadays one of the “icons” of and most wanted souvenirs of the city. You’ll visit a laboratory in the heart of Venice that produces typical Venetian masks, porcelain dolls and costumes, all in respect of the Venetian tradition.
During this tour, you will be introduced to the secrets of the art of glassblowing, renowned for centuries all over the world. The tour includes a visit to a glass factory showroom, located near Saint Mark's Square, were you will be told about the origins of the art form of glassblowing. You will assist in a demonstration by a Master Artisan, using the original and ancient traditional techniques, and creating, for you, a unique glass item.
You will also visit a shop famous for producing brocades, damasks, velvet and silks, which are unique worldwide, and furnish the most beautiful houses in the world. You will also see Venetian lace-art that was very much appreciated in France, as from Caterina de’ Medici and Minister Colbert. The first Venice lace traces back to 1500. It was created in the noble house using a needle and thread without any canvas for support. The subjects were geometric designs, featuring flowers and animals.
Last, but not least, you will be introduced to the creative secrets of the glass beads, "perle a lume” that are made of Murano glass, and have a very respectable reputation around the world. For over a thousand years, successive generations of artists had jealously passed down their knowledge of this ancient craft from generation to generation. Fortunately, that tradition continues to this day, still giving the world an amazing product.
