Mark the Extraordinary Papal Jubilee with a St Peter’s Basilica tour that includes passage through its holy door, an important act of Catholic pilgrimage. The Papal Jubilee, aka the Holy Year of Mercy, is set to draw pilgrims from around the world to Vatican City. Bypass the large crowds with a skip-the-line ticket and tour the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica. Then finish on a high note as you make your way through the basilica’s holy door.
Your tour starts at the heart of Vatican City, home to the pope and, of course, the world-famous Vatican Museums. Lines to enter the sacred museum complex are long, but, luckily for you, this tour includes skip-the-line entry so you head straight inside.
After a tour of the museum’s highlights, step inside the Sistine Chapel where Michelangelo’s famous frescoes await. Then, make your way to St Peter’s Basilica to see acclaimed artwork such as Michelangelo’s La Pietà. After learning about the art and architecture, take your passage through the basilica’s holy door, an act of huge significance for Catholic pilgrims.
The holy door is normally bricked up, impassable, but is opened once every 25 years for a jubilee. The Holy Year of Mercy, which commences from December 8, 2015, is billed as an Extraordinary Jubilee — that takes place outside of the 25-year cycle — so this is a rare chance to step through this sacred passageway.
Your tour then finishes in St Peter’s Square.
