Get to know Valparaiso like a local on this private tour from Santiago with a knowledgeable guide. Explore quaint alleys on foot, ride the elevators and trolleybus, sail through the bay, and taste delicious local dishes and drinks in this unique city – declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. Enjoy views from Concepción Hill as you sip coffee at a café, dine on a classic dish of chorrillana for lunch, and sip artisan beer at a classic bar.
After a 2.5-hour drive with your guide from Santiago, enter Valparaiso through Avenida Argentina, one of the city’s main avenues famous for its weekend market full of fruits and vegetables for sale.

First, stop at Plaza Sotomayor, the main square, where your guide will point out important buildings such as the Chilean Navy headquarters. From here, take the El Peral elevator to the upper part of town where you will start your walking tour through the fascinating streets and alleyways.

Stroll along Paseo Yugoslavo, a promenade where the stunning Baburrisa Palace stands. Continue through the charming alleys until reaching the Bavestrello to see homes architecturally designed with three house fronts.

Take Ascensor Concepción, the city’s oldest elevator, a funicular
that climbs Cerro Concepción (Concepción Hill). From the top, admire the angled roofs and brightly colored iron facades of the buildings. Enjoy a cup of coffee at the classic Café Brighton, situated along the hillside promenades of Paseo Gervasoni and Paseo Atkinson, as you take in the view.

Then, ride back down to the financial district, which includes the oldest stock exchange in Latin America. Continue your walking tour through downtown streets until you reach Jota Cruz Martínez Casino Social to dine with the locals. Here, you’ll enjoy Valparaiso’s most traditional dish, the Chorrillana – french fries topped with fried onions, egg, steak and sausages.

After lunch, hop aboard the trolleybus, the second-oldest system in South America, for a ride towards the city port. Valparaiso’s most traditional form of transportation, still operating by electricity, helped the city attain UNESCO World Heritage status.

Upon reaching the port of Valparaiso, board one of several classic ships and tour around Valparaiso Bay for a unique perspective of the city. Your guide will point out landmarks as well as a sea lion colony – one of many that inhabit Chilean waters.

Back on shore, enter the port’s most iconic bar and try an artisan-brewed beer or coffee before returning to Santiago with your guide.
