Ugljan Island, called 'the green island' thanks to its many pine trees and old olive groves, is considered a suburb of the city of Zadar as it lies just opposite to it. Ugljan island has plenty of bays, beaches and small fishing villages spread along the coast, conserving the secret of the past and hard life of fishermen.
From St. Michael's lookout you can enjoy a wonderful view of Zadar, the Velebit mountain and the many small islands, and with a little bit of luck along and clear sky, you can even see the Italian coast. Take a fun ride downhill along the path to the village of Kali, the place where the most successful fishermen on the Mediterranean live. You can also enjoy a swim, as the whole island of Ugljan is one big beach, consisting of many rocky and sandy coves. In a traditional island tavern, you can taste fresh traditional Mediterranean food. After lunch (at your own expense) you can take a swim and visit the Franciscan monastery on the small island of Škojić in fron of Preko.
