Explore the world's largest outdoor art gallery on this two hour, guided, walking tour of Center City Philadelphia and learn the stories behind the murals.A professionally-trained guide will share the stories of the people, places, and themes of each mural. Along the way, guests will also learn about the culture of the neighborhoods, how the murals complement their environment and the 30-year history of the Mural Arts Program.
Founded in 1984, the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program has created over 3800 works of public art, thus designating Philadelphia the Mural Capital of the World! As the nation’s largest program of its kind, artists and communities are engaged through a collaborative process, rooted in the traditions of mural-making, to create art that transforms public spaces, individual lives and exemplifies the notion that “art ignites change”.
Saturday and Sunday Mural Mile Walking Tours begin at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Hamilton Building, 128 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102. Offered at 11am and 3pm from April 2nd to November 26th.
Wednesday Mural Mile Mural Mile Walking Tours begin at the Philly Tour Hub, 229 arch Street, Philadelphia, PA. Offered at 11am and 4pm from June 15th to August 31st.
All tours are approximately 2 hours long and 2 miles in length. All tours run rain or shine.
