Come aboard the "SY Sun Catcher," a giant, 45 foot long by 24 foot wide sailing catamaran yacht. See what it's like to live by elite standards without breaking the bank. Enjoy spacious deck areas and a huge covered cockpit area, plus a smooth and stable ride aboard one of the best designed sailing yachts ever created. Swim with wild sea turtles who are tame enough to allow you a super close and personal experience.Guests will be picked up from Yacht Haven Grande Marina. Once aboard, the crew will prepare the yacht for departure and give a safety briefing. During this time you are free to enjoy snacks and beverages in the shaded cockpit area.
Next, the captain will raise anchor and take off for Buck Island, which is about an hour from Charlotte Amalie Harbor depending on the wind conditions. Once the boat reaches the island, the experience with the turtles will begin. The stern ladder will be lowered so guests can swim or snorkel out into Turtle Harbor, under the watchful eye of rescue-trained staff. There are always many turtles in the bay. Time in the water will be from 45 to 60 minutes, so you are guaranteed to have turtles surfacing during your visit. If you know how to deep dive (15 to 20 feet), you can swim down and cruise beside the turtles.
Once swimming time is over, you will board the yacht and get ready for the third experience. The crew will put up the sails for the return across the channel to St Thomas. If the wind is good, the engines are off. The trip back can be from 45-60 minutes. During this time, you are invited to be in the cockpit or out on the deck. There are even two mesh trampolines for guests to enjoy during the passage. These are especially great on a hot day, as water sprays up and through the trampolines!
Finally, the tour will return to the pickup point and drop anchor again. Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen. If you have your own personal snorkel gear, we recommend you bring it for a better fit, as well as towels that you may prefer.
