A popular tour to see and enjoy the nature, the scenery and the highest mountain of Cyprus, Troodos. Your begins with pick up from your central Paphos hotel. Explore some of the most popular sights in Cyprus on this day tour including: Omodos Village, Kykkos Monastery, Holy Cross Monastery and taste local wines.Be picked up from your hotel and visit Omodos, a beautiful village located in the famous wine-producing area of Afames, in the Limassol district.
You will walk the cobbled streets to the village square which is lined with coffee shops and sellers of local produce. Visit the monastery of the Holy Cross, which houses a piece of the rope used by the Romans to fasten Jesus to the cross, and see the old wine press, glass makers and other craftsmen. There will be time to have a coffee or try the unique desert wine called ‘commandaria’ and the local spirit called ‘zivania’.
From there head north through the Troodos forest and small villages, to Kykkos, one of the holiest and richest monasteries in Cyprus. It is here that the first President of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios became a young monk, and was later buried according to his wishes. Among the most important treasures of the monastery is the icon of the Virgin Mary, which was reputedly painted by the Apostle Luke himself. You will also be able to see many religious relics of other saints. Time will be given for lunch and shopping at the square.
On your return to Paphos, driving through Paphos forest to reach our last stop.the 12th century Chrysoroyiatissa monastery dedicated to Our Lady of the Golden Pomegranate.
