Experience the authentic atmosphere of Tromsø, the Gateway to the Arctic! Get to know the history of this Arctic outpost and become acquainted with the flavours of the North. The price of this tour includes:
- A qualified guide at your disposal
- 10 samples of locally produced beer
- city tour on foot
- Arctic Tapas
- visit to 3 venues
Your guide will meet you at the tourist information office at Prostneset. From there you will first walk 500m to the first stop at the world's northernmost brewery. On the way your guide will tell you about the historical significance of the site of the world's northernmost Protestant cathedral, and give a brief summary about how its history is intertwined with that of the Mack brewery and Tromsø's oldest pub Ølhallen.
Ølhallen is the place in Tromsø with the largest selection of Mack beer from the world's northernmost brewery on tap, and they are also serving 50 different craft beers from Norwegian microbreweries – on tap! Their draught system is the largest in Europe. Sample some of Mack's most popular products, including among others a dark lager, which has been continuously brewed since 1878, making it Mack's oldest still existing product - a true taste of history.
After the tasting you'll visit Kjeller 5, one of the brewery's old storage basements, that has now been turned into Tromsø's only specialty shop for brewing ingredients and beer – a great place to buy gifts and souvenirs!
From there, it's time to walk along the entire length of Tromsø's bustling main street (~900m), giving you a chance to see a selection of the most important sights our city has to offer, such as the world's northernmost Catholic and Protestant cathedrals, a number of statues, traditional wooden houses, and another local microbrewery. You'll even encounter the spot with the highest density of sights in all of Tromsø!
The final stop of the tour will be a traditional local pub, whose atmosphere is reflecting the maritime history of our city. There you are invited to taste further products from Arctic craft breweries, together with a selection of Arctic tapas, such as reindeer carpaccio or cold-smoked salmon. The tour ends here after the tasting, and you may either choose to stay on your own and have dinner – and/or full-sized beers – at this local restaurant, or you may choose to have your guide accompany you either to Hurtigruten just in time for its departure, or to the meeting point of your northern light expedition.
It is recommended to book well in advance, as this tour is strictly limited to a maximum of 15 participants. This is not mass tourism!
