Battle stories, sea views and a historical island fort to boot. This round-trip boat ride is the perfect ticket for a visit to Trekroner Fort, the oldest of Copenhagen’s sea fortifications. After a 30-minute open-air boat ride to the island, passing city sights such as Amalienborg Palace, explore the reconstructed fort at your leisure. Then, return to Copenhagen by ferry when you please.
Board your open-air boat at Nyhavn, and cruise north out of the harbor to the tiny fort island of Trekroner. The ride lasts roughly 30 minutes, so sit back and enjoy the views as you cruise. Classic Copenhagen sights such as the Royal Danish Playhouse, Royal Danish Opera, Amalienborg Palace and the Little Mermaid statue can all be seen along the route.
When you arrive at the island, your time is your own to explore at leisure. Perhaps stroll around the island to soak up the views across the sea. Then, take a walk around the fort and learn how the historical site was established nearly 300 years ago. As the oldest sea fort in Copenhagen’s ring of fortifications, Trekroner once had the job of defending the city from attack with its 24 cannons. Today, the site is a peaceful place and a popular getaway for locals and visitors alike.
When you are ready to return, simply make your way to the pier and board a boat back to the start point in Copenhagen. Please bear in mind that boats only return every second hour.
