Board the ferry at Cruz Bay in St John and cruise 40 minutes across the Caribbean Sea to Tortola Island, located in the British Virgin Islands. When you arrive, hire a taxi (own expense) for a quick drive to Dolphin Discovery Tortola for your 10am, 12pm, 2pm or 4pm dolphin encounter.
Nestled beneath forest-covered mountains, this dolphinarium's natural ocean-water playpen is the ideal place to enjoy an up-close encounter with dolphins. Listen to a 15-minute introduction from the trainers, and then jump into the water for your 30-minute swim with these magnificent marine mammals — some of the friendliest and most intelligent creatures in the sea.
Greet the dolphins in the water with a kiss, hug and fin-to-handshake, and listen as they whistle, click and sing in communication. The first activity is a foot-push, during which two dolphins propel you through the water by the soles of your feet. Delight in the feeling of flight as they push you effortlessly through the water and up into the air! Next up is a dorsal tow: Hold onto the dolphins’ dorsal fins and splash through the water as they glide you effortlessly along.
Experienced trainers are on hand during your entire 30-minute dolphin swim, so if you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask. Enjoy a boxed lunch of a hamburger, French fries and soda at the end of your swim. Hop on the ferry whenever you wish for the ride back to St John.
