Maximum group size is 6.Your tour starts with an early 9am pickup at your hotel. Gowlland Tod Hike is close to town but far enough to experience the natural beauty of the area away from the city. This tour is about a 30 km drive from downtown, starting from a lesser known hiking trail that leads into Gowlland Tod Provincial Park.
After a 15-minute climb, the trail levels off to your first view of Finlayson Arm, the beautiful fjord that cuts deep into Vancouver Island near Victoria. From here, the hike rises gradually as you walk among Grand Fir and Arbutus trees. Along the hike, your guide will add a dash of Vancouver Island’s fascinating history.
Next, you'll leave the main trail to descend down to a rock platform with an amazing perspective. Then your final ascent takes you to the top, at about 1400 feet (430 meters) above sea level. Depending on the weather, you will see stunning vistas of Finlayson Arm, the small mountains in front of Victoria, the Juan De Fuca Strait, and the Olympic Mountains in Washington State. Remember to breathe!
Required equipment: Hiking boots or good hiking/running shoes (no sandals please). Light jacket depending on weather.
