Spare a day to visit the rock-carved monastery complex of David-Gareja, dating back to the VI century. Guided private tour for groups of 1 to 3, 4 to 7 and 5 to 12 travellers.David-Gareja is a rock-carved monastery complex, founded in the VI century by one of the so-called Assyrian fathers, a Christian missionary monk, David of Gareja. The territory of the complex covers around 30km of mountainous terrain and holds 20 individual monasteries, as well as hundreds of sketes, often located quite far from the chief caverns and buildings. It is located on the slopes of Mt. Gareja in the southernmost reaches of Kakheti, close to Georgia’s border with Azerbaijan. Skilfully carved into the rock face of the mountain and artfully decorated with centuries-old frescos, the monastery complex boasts ceaseless activity up to this day.
