Indulge your tastebuds with a kiwifruit tasting as well as enjoying beautiful scenery, tranquil lakes and forested gorges. You can look forward to a wonderful day out and see for yourself why Rotorua is one of New Zealand's top destinations.Your day will begin with a greeting from your guide outside the port gates. Upon leaving the port we take the inland route, over the harbour bridge and through Tauranga to join the old drovers road to Rotorua. This historic route, carved by the first Maori settlers many hundreds of years ago, passes through stunning scenery, forests and deep gorges.

Arriving in Rotorua we begin by visiting the highlights of this famous tourist town. You will see Government Gardens, the Historic Bath House, Rotorua Museum, the Blue Baths, Rachel's Pool and then along the Lake front to drive past the Te Arawa Waka (canoe) to our lunch destination at the Lakeside Cafe, which offers a great selection of meals and snacks (own expense). You may have a little time after lunch to stroll along the lake front or to St Faiths Church and the Ohinemutu Maori Village which is just a 5 minute walk.

We then board the mini coach for a short drive to the Whakarewarewa geothermal valley and location of The Living Maori Village, our destination for the afternoon.

Here we will be met by our Maori guide who will take us through this unique destination on a one hour guided walk of the village, where for over 200 years the Tuhourangi/Ngati Wahiao tribe have welcomed visitors into their backyard.

You will experience an authentic Living Maori Village where people live on a daily basis using the natural resources to cook, bathe and heat their homes. We also include a traditional cultural performance set in the heart of the village where you will see the fearsome Haka, plus dance, song and much more.

You will be able to view the geothermal wonders of Whakarewarewa Valley, including the world famous Pohutu geyser, boiling mud-pools, steam vents and bubbling pools with names such as Parekohuru and Korotiotio.

Still feeling a little peckish, you will have the chance to buy some Hangi cooked corn on the cob or a Hangi Pie (own expense) before departing for Tauranga.

Our route back to the ship follows the coastal road, passing Lake Rotorua and Lake Rotoiti, through plantation forests and kiwi fruit orchards, for which the Bay of Plenty is famous. Time permitting we will make a short stop at the Kiwifruit Country Store, chance to taste some of the many products this "super food" is used for, a little retail therapy at the gift shop and a look at the kiwifruit vines up close.

You will return to the ship in good time for its departure.
