Seattle, Washington
Rating:
Trip Type: Historical & Heritage Tours
Duration: 60 minutes
Go underground on this small-group walking history tour through Seattle's original neighborhood, Pioneer Square. Professional guides will take you down to the original level of Seattle as it existed in the 1890's where you will explore underground pathways that were built more than 120 years ago. Along the way you will learn about early Seattle history, how and why these spaces were built, and how they have been used (and misused!) over the years. You'll also learn about the events and people who helped transform a small Indian encampment into one of the 20 largest cities in the United States.

So in between each underground area, the tour will head back up to current street level, then walk a bit, and then go back underground. There are 6 flights of stairs (single-story), and three blocks of walking that will be covered in about one hour. Tours are rain or shine, so dress accordingly. Some of the underground surfaces are uneven and you will encounter a variety of surfaces, so please wear appropriate shoes.
