The third major current of public art is of course the fuzzed out generation X anomie represented by the 90’s “mission school” of painters. Come to the birth of “Wildstyle” letters, and see a vast continuum of glyphs and sigils, be they psychedelic cartoon monsters, 1930’s peans to longshoremen, or gangster bubble letters. The Mission District is world famous for hosting hundreds and hundreds of murals, in hundreds of styles. Both Civic minded and juvenile, we will see walls decorated in conceptually minimalist fashion, but also in the calligraphically baroque text of the West Coast “Wildstyle” of graffiti writing.
STREET ART TOUR OF SAN FRANCISCO HIGHLIGHTS
Public walls, or “jungles” covered in “Throw Ups” and “bombs” of legendary old school heads
A Geodesic telescope for transforming the freeway
