Murder, mayhem, and Marie Antoinette—dive into to the heart of the French Revolution by visiting rare, never-before-seen addresses that transport you to Paris’ most tumultuous days. Unearth secret areas like the alley where the guillotine was invented, the location of an infamous assassination, and a secret crypt—normally closed to the public—to see skeletal remains of the Revolution’s victims with your own eyes!

Your trip through the dramatic days of the Revolution begins at the stunning Saint-Sulpice Church. You’ll admire the beauty of this must-see monument from inside and out, discovering hidden details as you learn of the early days of the Parisian uprising. This is the start of an informative and picturesque stroll through the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area.

You’ll visit the oldest café in Paris—established 1686—to see the very rooms where the Revolutionaries planned their attacks. Characters like Danton, Robespierre and Marat will come into the picture, each with their own violent personalities and murderous strategies. You’ll see the narrow alleyway where the guillotine was invented and tested, complete with facts and stories provided by your guide. A complementary café break will also be part of the plan, so you can soak up some Left Bank ambience like a true local.

In addition, you’ll visit historical sites of the September Massacres—a particularly bloody period that saw the height of Revolutionary brutality. You’ll learn about King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette, including the night they tried to escape Paris, and those fateful moments when the back of their necks met the “National Razor”.

A powerful and unexpected conclusion awaits you at the end of the tour: an underground crypt that displays actual skulls and skeletal remains of some of the period’s victims! You’ll have exclusive private access to this area which is usually closed to the public. *Please note that access to the crypt is only guaranteed when scheduling allows.
