Leaving York, you'll travel through the farming heartland of North Yorkshire on the way to the historic market town of Helmsley on the edge of the Moors. Here you'll have time to explore the charming town, its pretty church and castle, and perhaps to enjoy a cup of tea and a scone, before the tour continues into the Moors. The journey climbs up to the idyllic village of Hutton-le-Hole, where the local sheep graze freely on the common land.
Before long you'll reach the North York Moors National Park, where your guide for the day will show you some of the finest sights and explain how the Moors came to look as beautiful, rugged and wild as it does. You'll have chance to walk across the heather and see the mining, farming and ancient history of the region.
The next step of the journey takes you to the North Yorkshire coastline as you approach the remarkable seaside town of Whitby. This busy fishing town is home to a breathtaking cliff-top abbey, the world's most famous fish and chip restaurant (the Magpie Cafe), a beautiful beach and picturesque harbour. You can learn about Whitby's connection to the new worlds at the terrific Captain James Cook Memorial Museum, find out what inspired Bram Stoker to write the Dracula story with a visit to St Mary's Church and the Dracula Experience Museum, shop for famous Whitby Jet in the Old Town and take a boat cruise from the harbour to see more of this picture-postcard coastline.

The journey continues up through Sleights and on to the village of Goathland, nestled at the bottom of a wide valley and surrounded by the heather and hills of the North York Moors. The village is possibly best known for its role as the fictional village of 'Aidensfield' in Heartbeat, the long-running ITV drama series. Evidence of the TV show are on show throughout the town; you'll have chance to visit the Aidensfield Arms, pop into Aidensfield Stores and Post Office and to see what's happening at Scripps Garage.
At Goathland station, which was famously converted into Hogsmeade Station for the filming of the Harry Potter movies, you'll have chance to explore the charming station before boarding a steam train for a nostalgic steam-hauled journey across the Moors. Snaking through the valleys and heathland of the Moors, you'll see this amazing scenery as you travel in restored heritage carriages. At the end of the line in the medieval market town of Pickering you'll rejoin the minibus and make the final journey back to York.
