When your cruise ship docks, meet your guide and travel into central St Petersburg. Your first stop is the Grand Maket Russia Interactive Museum, where Russia has been replicated on a model scale. Moving trains and cars complete the interactive experience, and there are even flying helicopters and a UFO. Press buttons to see the models come to life as your guide explains a little more of the country’s history.

Stop for lunch in a child-friendly restaurant, and then continue to the river for a relaxing boat trip. View the city from the water side. A boat wends its way along the Fontanka, the Moyka, the Winter Canal and a loop on the Neva river. Main sites along the way include Anichkov Bridge, Engineer’s Castle, Summer Gardens, the Salt District, Field of Mars, General Staff Building and the Church on Spilled Blood. Impressive from the outside, the church's exterior hints at its interior treasure. Creating the atmosphere of a fairy tale, the place of worship is decorated with tiny pieces of colorful mosaic, making for a church interior that is sure to captivate all the family. Finally, when you get to the main river, enjoy the views of St. Peter and Paul’s fortress, Trinity Bridge, the Winter Palace.

After hearing anecdotes and tidbits of history about the place of worship, continue to Peter and Paul Fortress. Built by the order of Tsar Peter the Great in the 18th century, the fortress is an important part of the city and now operates as a museum. Show the kids the collection of armory, and admire the views from the banks of the Neva River.

Take a look inside Peter and Paul Cathedral where many Romanovs were buried, and then bid your guide goodbye. Your shore excursion finishes with a drop-off back at the port.
