Discover dramatic black-sand beaches, thundering waterfalls and ancient volcanoes and glaciers that typify south Iceland on a full-day tour from Reykjavik! After leaving the city, take a walk around Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, and then follow an expert local guide along Reynisfjara beach. Continue past the 700-year-old Sólheimajökull glacier and ogle the magnificent waterfalls at Skógafoss. The scenic route takes in some of Iceland’s most rugged and beautiful terrain, passing through the foothills of Eyjafjallajökull and Hekla volcanoes.Leave your central Reykjavik hotel and then travel with your guide to Iceland’s south coast. Your day’s itinerary doesn’t include a lunch stop, so — if you haven’t brought lunch with you — your guide will make a stop on the journey so you can buy food to eat later in the day, if you wish.

Stop at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, and pose for photos in front of its magnificent wall of water. The falls have graced thousands of Icelandic postcards, so, have your camera ready to capture incredible views of the water cascading down in front of you. From Seljalandsfoss, travel to Sólheimajökull to admire the expansive glacier.

Follow your guide around the ancient ice plateau to see the stunning rock formations that Sólheimajökull is known for. Continue to the black-sand beach of Reynisfjara to see its basalt rock stacks that jut out of the sea; according to local legend, the sea stacks were mischievous trolls turned to rock by the rising sun. Finish with a stop at Skógafoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall.

Your full route takes in expanses of fertile farming land as well as several small villages that are typical of southern Iceland — rich with Viking history and heritage. Your guide will point out the famous Eyjafjallajökull and Hekla volcanoes (weather depending), as well as the Westman Islands that rise steeply from the ocean.

After your visit to Skógafoss, return to your transportation and relax on the journey back to Reykjavik. Your full-day tour of south Iceland then finishes with a drop-off at your hotel.
