Snorkel your way through different seascapes around the northern end of St Martin. On a half-day tour from Grand Case, swim alongside sea turtles and colorful fish at Turtle Reef. Discover dolphins and eagle rays near Creole Rock, part of a protected reserve.
Check in at the snorkeling and diving center in Grand Case, on the French side of St Martin. When you’re ready, head with your guide to your boat. Zip across the sun-dappled waters off St Martin’s coast to your first site. Following a safety briefing, slip on your life vest and snorkeling gear and listen to brief commentary on the marine wildlife you will encounter.

Your boat first heads to Creole Rock in Grand Case Bay, part of the Reserve Naturelle of St Martin. In the shallow sandy and seagrass beds near the mooring site, discover peacock flounder and southern stingrays. Follow flurries of sand and find spotted eagle rays burrowing to feed on mollusks and crustaceans. Swimming toward the rocky islet, you’ll see coral, parrotfish, wrasses and larger fish being cleaned by gobies and shrimp.

If tidal conditions permit, swim around Creole Rock and find reef full of sea fans and other soft corals fed by rich Atlantic water nutrients. If you are a strong swimmer, make your way to an overhang covered with spiny lobster, and observe porcupinefish, trumpetfish and angelfish in deeper waters. Further out, you might glimpse dolphins.

Continue to Turtle Reef in Grand Case Bay, where you’ll find two large rock formations rising out of the water, surrounded by a sandbar, with depths ranging from 8 to 30 feet (2 to 10 meters). Spot hawksbill and green turtles, or perhaps octopus amid fan coral. Swim next to flying gurnards, stingrays, jawfish, sailfin blennies, remoras or toadfish.

Eventually, your boat will take you back to Grand Case . . . but not just yet.
