After hotel pickup, start your full-day tour with a visit to Shanghai Old Town, the old walled city also known as Nan Shi.
Stroll with your guide and small group through Yuyuan Garden, an imperial Ming-era garden situated next to Chenghuangmiao, aka City God Temple. Admire spring and summer blooms amid the pine, willow and cherry trees (depending on the season), and visit the adjacent bazaar.

Next, follow your guide on foot to a traditional Chinese wet market where you’ll catch an eyeful of fresh produce, fish and seafood sold by busy vendors. Then venture to a local home to get a feel for Chinese family life in the city. Learn how to make Shanghai-style wontons, and sit down for lunch to discuss daily living in Shanghai.
After lunch, continue your tour to Tianzifang, a renovated residential area in the French Concession teeming with arts and crafts. Meander through the labyrinth of narrow alleyways, passing handicraft shops, cafes, art studios and galleries, and learn about the Western and Chinese elements of the preserved Shikumen style of architecture.
Head toward your final activity of the day — a cruise on the Huangpu River — stopping on the way at a silk factory to discover the steps of silk production, a process that dates back 4,000 years. Once you're aboard the boat on the river, glimpse more than 100 years of architectural styles and admire panoramic views of both sides of Shanghai.
At the end of the day, your guide drops you off at your hotel.
