With your knowledgeable guide leading the way, walk north, heading toward Mercado Central. You’ll walk about 8 to 10 blocks in total, stopping at different restaurants to try a variety of local food. Specific dishes vary, but expect to sample home-style cuisine like porotos granados (a bean and corn dish), pastel de choclo (a typically meaty casserole), a refreshing mote con huesillo (a cool, sweet drink made from wheat and peaches) and a terremoto (translates to ‘earthquake,’ but in this instance, it’s a unique Chilean drink made of ice cream mixed with white wine and fernet).
