Check in for your dive, showing your PADI or other valid scuba diving certificate, and meet your professional dive guide. Then, board your dive boat, receive a safety briefing and get kitted out with the supplied equipment, including wetsuits, masks, regulator, weights and tanks.
Your dive site will be suitable for divers of all levels, and be finalised on the day. Most trips, though, head for the aquamarine waters of Bandar Khayran and Fahal Island, two of Oman’s most bountiful dive sites and both between 20 and 45 minutes from Muscat by boat.
Admire Oman’s craggy coast as you sail towards the chosen site and once there, get yourself kitted up with help from the experienced crew. Then, plunge into the translucent waters and enjoy your dive.
Depths span 33 feet (10 meters) to 98 feet (30 meters), and the plankton-rich waters of both Bandar Khayran and Fahal Island attract a rich array of marine life, including pelagic fish such as barracuda and trevally. Depending on the site, divers can explore everything from stunning rock falls to coral-filled bays and look for everything from turtles — Oman’s seas are home to five different species, including the rare hawksbill — to devil and eagle rays, nurse sharks and much more.
At Bandar Khayran, expect to see rocky outcrops, high walls and coral gardens alive with manta rays, turtles and tropical fish. Fahal Island, meanwhile, is a rocky islet that boasts hard and soft corals, rock pinnacles, shipwrecks and even a cave swim-through, all frequented by snappers, trigger fish, turtles and rays. Watch for the nurse sharks here, too.
After your dive, return to your boat and refuel with onboard complimentary soda, mineral water and snacks before sailing back to the starting jetty. Your trip then ends with a hotel drop-off.
