The Glacier Lagoon - Jökulsárlón is Iceland's most mystical natural wonder that you should not miss. On this day trip from Reykjavik you will also have the opportunity to enjoy an exciting boat ride among the icebergs. Travel in a small-group which provides a more personal approach. After picking you up from your centrally located Reykjavik hotel, this tour formally begins at the charming village of Vík, a couple of hours from Reykjavik and continues east through spectacular scenery, lava fields and black sandy desert all the way to the magnificent Glacier Lagoon, Jökulsárlón where you have the option to take a boat ride amongst the icebergs. Choose between the fast Zodiac boat, or an amphibian boat experience. You will also visit the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, stopping to admire beautiful waterfalls along the way.
Your journey then continues on to Skaftafell National Park where you will stop at the visitor center and take a short hike (optional) to Svartifoss waterfall cascading down stacks of basalt columns. As the tour makes its way back towards Reykjavik you might be able to catch a glimpse of the eternal kiss of the Icelandic trolls along the way before you visit the serene, beautiful 100 meter deep Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon.
This tour is truly something you'll never forget!
Main sights/highlights:
Kirkjubæjarklaustur & Vík village
Skaftafell glacier & Svartifoss waterfall
Fjadrargljufur canyon
Zodiac or Amphibian boat ride on Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon (not operating in winter)
Please note: the itinerary of this tour is subject to change if road or weather conditions are unfavorable, especially during winter months (e.g. Svartifoss and Fjadrargljufur might be difficult to reach). The Glacier Lagoon boats do not operate during winter. Also, due to fewer daylight hours between November and February much of the driving to and from the sights will be in darkness.
