The walking-tasting tour and dinner was planned and organized by tour guides (with a PhD in art history) and a professional chef (with a PhD in archeology and evolution of food) to guarantee quality, professionalism and excellence.
Chocolate isn't a local production, but was imported to Europe by the Spanish during the 16th century. It's theorized that it was the Florentine merchant and explorer Francesco d' Antonio Carletti who discovered chocolate on his travels and brought it to Italy in 1606.
The tour will start with a fantastic historical site Piazza Santa Maria Novella, facing the church, that was built in the 13th Century by Dominican monks. From there, the group will walk to the first place where hot chocolate was served in Florence. Initially, the chocolate would be prepared only as a hot creamy liquid, not as a solid food; all the people were crazy for this drink, and you will feel the same way.
Walking along the beautiful streets of Florence, you will see some of the best preserved palaces of the Renaissance; you will then walk across the Arno river, where you can then stop on a bridge to take a fantastic picture of Ponte Vecchio (the most famous bridge of Florence). After, you will reach one of the best Gelateria of the city, where you will taste the perfect combo between gelato and chocolate. The gelateria is in the Oltrarno area of the city, where you can meet the locals and breathe a very authentic atmosphere.
The very last stop, before you meet the chef, will be at this elegant and sophisticated pastry shop and chocolate factory where you will taste different pralines flavored with fruits and spices.
The final stop of the tour will be with Chef Vary, a fantastic chef who will welcome you to her home. Your chocolate experience will continue with a chocolate dinner; this doesn't mean that you will have a sweet dinner, but you will instead taste some specialties cooked with chocolate so you will learn more about the multiplicity of its use.
