Qixing, means seven stars because from the peak of the mountain you can see the tops of the seven surrounding mountains. You’ll see a variety of wildlife and explore the winding paths. It’s a great day long adventure for explorers of all kind.First, your guide will meet you and take you by bus to Yangmingshan Station. Yangmingshan is the national park that Qixing Mountain is located in. Once off the bus, you’ll be free to explore the entrance to the park and be immediately greeted by a water fountain and bubbling streams.
As you start your ascent, the trail will be steep so there is fair warning that this train can be tiring but is worth the effort. The natural scenery has to be seen to be believed. The mountainside has both dense forests and grassy fields giving you a variety of scenes to admire. Be prepared to see all kinds of wildlife ranging from colorful lizards to chirping birds.
You might catch a whiff of the Sulphur as Qixing Mountain is a volcano but not an active one. There are natural fumaroles which are pillars of smoke rising from cracks in the mountain. Their presence gives the mountain a smoky yet eerie beauty.
As you arrive at the top of the main peak, you’ll be able to see in all directions and the “seven stars” which are the seven mountain peaks visible from the top. On a clear day, you will see Taipei in the distance and even the ocean. The oddly quiet peak is a great place to rest and enjoy the view as the tour is not over yet. After the main peak, head down the mountain and back up the east peak which has its own unique views.
Having scaled both peaks, you’ll finally come down from the mountain passing Lengshuikeng, a lake created by the volcano many years ago. The chemical makeup gives the water a thick, milky look. Despite the name, this area is home to many hot springs. You’ll pass by rustic, Japanese-style, wooden bathhouses as we return to our bus to head home.
