Meet your driver-guide at your central Ljubljana hotel, and then set off in a comfortable minivan to begin your tour of Slovenia’s lesser-known sights.
On route to your first stop, gaze out at rural Slovenia and listen to your guide talk about the day’s itinerary. The sights you see on the day are dependent on your guide, the time of year, weather conditions, and the preferences of your group, as specified at the time of booking.
Perhaps stop at Županova jama, or the Mayor’s Cave, one of the 10,000 known caves in the country. Tour the cavernous halls with your guide and marvel at the stalactites, stalagmites, chasms and sinter pools. Other off-the-beaten-path caves you might visit include Hell Cave (Jama Pekel) and Planina Cave.
Next, maybe continue to one of the many beautiful castles. Stop at Žužemberk Castle, widely considered one of the most picturesque in Slovenia, Turjak Castle, or Podsreda Castle, one of the country’s best preserved medieval castles. Then, perhaps visit one of the region’s stunning churches, such as the Gothic Ptujska Gora Church or Stična Cistercian Abbey, the oldest monastery in Slovenia.
After, you might set off in search of a traditional craft festival, music festival or market, where you can learn about age-old skills such as lace making or iron forging, get a taste of local culture or pick up some regional delicacies. Or, maybe journey to Lower Carniola (Dolenjska), where you’ll visit a local winery for a tour and tasting session.
As you travel between sights, enjoy plenty of photo stops at the spectacular waterfalls, lakes, forests and other beauty spots. In the evening, your day trip concludes with a drop-off back at your Ljubljana hotel.
