Begin with a pickup from your centrally located Ljubljana hotel in the morning, and then travel by air-conditioned minivan to Škocjan Caves Regional Park. As you travel, hear from your driver-guide how the Škocjan Caves are one of only two cave systems in the world to have received UNESCO World Heritage status.

Spend up to two hours exploring the largest subterranean canyon in the world via an underground walkway on the Reka River, strolling past otherworldly formations of stalactites and stalagmites, as well as sinkholes, gorges, abysses and natural bridges.

Continue to the village of Lokev, established by the Knights Templar, an ancient order founded in the 12th century. With your guide, stroll through the tiny village to the Gothic 15th-century Church of Mary Help of Christians, and see its defense tower. Then, enjoy around an hour of free time for lunch (own expense) at one of the local restaurants.

Next, travel to Lipica, a quaint village in the Municipality of Sežana where Lipizzaner horses — one of the oldest breeds of horses in Europe — originate from. Visit the Lipica Stud Farm, established in the late 16th century by the Habsburgs as their royal stables, and discover how it was here that Lipizzaners were first bred. Enjoy a 1.5-hour walking tour of the grounds and get up close to these iconic white-coated stallions. Depending on the day, you may also have the opportunity to watch a 45-minute classical horse show.

When the time comes, return to your minivan and head back to Ljubljana, where your tour concludes at your hotel.
