Starting on Porto’s side of the river we’ll start the tour by getting the participants comfortable and at ease. We’ll hear a historical contextualisation of Port Wine whilst we walk along to the shady cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. There will be a guided visit to the museum and cellar of one of the most prestigious Port Wine houses, followed by a tasting of a Reserve Tawny and Reserve White Ports.
We’ll talk about what makes port wine so different from other wines and learn when it should be consumed and how to tell the difference between the different Port Wine families. Followed by a visit to an old cellar transformed into visiting center, having the opportunity to get into contact with the ins and outs Port Wine barrels and learn how cork, the noble wine preserving material, is produced. We won’t leave the visiting center without trying a delicate and young Ruby Port.
The third place we visit to is a modern, interactive Port Wine interpretation center. Built to close the gap between the Douro Valley and the Wine cellars, it offers us the possibility of getting into contact with the oldest wine region in the world, where the grapes are grown, and the exclusive professional tasting room. Reserved only for the few we’ll have a wine tasting workshop with 4 different wines, learning how to taste the different families of Port Wine and learn how pair them with food.
