The collection is the backbone of fascinating exhibitions about the Netherlands and the country’s elemental connection with the sea. The museum is located in an old Arsenal, the storehouse of the Royal Dutch Navy, dating back to 1656. This historical landmark is covered by an amazing glass roof, repeating one of the old nautical maps.
The replica of the Dutch East Indiaman moored beside the museum is the largest collection piece and stands out as one of the most popular things to do in Amsterdam.
There is a free audio tour available that will take you through the highlights of the museum collection in 60 minutes. The museum is completly wheelchair accessible and some of our exhibitions are designed specially for young children.
