After pickup from central Queenstown, travel 15 minutes out of the town centre by 4WD vehicle. When you arrive, your guide leads you on a short walk through the bush to a custom-built wooden platform embedded in a cliff above the Shotover River.
From the platform, situated 358 feet (109 meters) above the river, you’ll see cables strung between two cliffs on either side of the river.
Your guide provides a thorough safety briefing, then helps you to get fitted in a secure harness. You and your fellow jumpers are securely harnessed to the two ropes that run from the middle of the cables back to the platform. If you experience any pre-jump jitters, your guide reassures you with encouraging words.
The transition from falling to swinging is very smooth, without jolts. It's because this system relies on your body weight, turning you into a human pendulum as you swing back and forth after the initial 200-foot (60-meter) freefall.
When you finish swinging— about 330 feet (100 meters) below the jump platform — your guide winches your line back up to the platform. If you’re hooked on the feeling, you have the option to purchase another jump and to do it all over again.
Allow about 2.5 hours for the entire excursion. It's an awesome memory of Queenstown.
