This small-group tour will showcase to you the highlights of New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland! Known as the ‘City of Sails’, you will enjoy plenty of stops throughout the day to allow you to see and feel what makes this vibrant city tick. You will also be given time for lunch at a secret garden!Your Auckland Highlights tour will begin at the Princes Wharf and Queens Wharf where the cruise ships berth. Join us on a 6-hour (approximately) tour to see the main city sights and most famous landmarks.
We begin by heading East along the waterfront and our first stop is Bastion Point, a place of great significance in Auckland's recent history. Here you will be able to not only enjoy the beautiful harbour views but your guide will also explain the history of this location, once a point of conflict for Aucklanders.
Then it’s back down to the waterfront drive to the affluent suburbs of Mission Bay and St Heliers, passing by some of Auckland's most expensive homes on Paritai Drive, where many of Auckland's rich and famous live.
Next we will visit the Auckland Domain, location of the Auckland Museum and where the ANZAC ceremony takes place each year. However, there will not be enough time to visit the museum on this tour.
It's time for a break as we visit a very secluded garden set in one of the most affluent parts of Auckland and very close to Government House. Here you have time to buy a light snack or lunch at the cafe or just wander through the beautiful gardens, explore the many plant collections including perennials, vireyas, camellias, bromeliads and native New Zealand plants, with something always in flower.
After our lunch break we head north, through the trendy suburb of Ponsonby before crossing the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge which offers some great views from high above the water, to Takapuna and Devonport on the North Shore where we will explore North Head, Mt Victoria and finally Devonport itself.
You have the option here to leave our tour and catch the harbour ferry back to the city centre, (ticket cost at own expense) and perhaps explore some of the interesting boutiques and shops as well beforehand, or just stay on the minibus and we will take you straight back to the ship in good time for its departure.
