Along the way you can contemplate the landscape through several viewpoints like Carvão and Vista do Rei. On the highest point of the mountain, take one of the most well known scenic trails of the world – Cumeeiras trail - to the volcano cone and go inside the crater to get out in the small village of Sete Cidades. After a stop for a good typical Azorean lunch add some adventure to your Azores visit and explore the central massif of Serra de Água de Pau.
See Lagoa do Fogo, or “Fire Lake,” the 2nd largest lake on the island, that’s situated in an unspoiled natural area. With tracks that are lined up by native flora, the entire area was classified by the European Commission as a Special Area of Conservation and part of the Natura 2000 network. For those who enjoy the pleasures of what nature has to offer we have Caldeira Velha, an amazing warm waterfall flowing to a natural swimming pool were you can enjoy a dive (don't forget to bring your swimsuit and towel) surrounded by a luxurious vegetation. After a rejuvenating bath head out on an alternative trail to Ribeira Grande for a taste of our regional liquors before returning to Ponta Delgada.
