Leaving from Ponta Delgada, this small-group tour takes you to the west side of the island and up to the volcanic complex of Sete Cidades. Known for its lakes, this place offers up amazing scenery. Leaving from Ponta Delgada, this small-group tour takes you to the west side of the island and up to the volcanic complex of Sete Cidades. Known for its lakes, this place offers up amazing scenery. Feel the breeze and smell the fantastic scent of nature, combined with extensive views where only the horizon is the limit.After meeting at a central location, head west out of Ponta Delgada,where your first stop will be at Rocha de Relva lookout point used by whale hunters in the past.
Next, go to the Pico do Carvão viewpoint (or Empadadas Lakes, if the gate is open and visibility is good), with their wonderful panoramic views of the whole island.
Then, depending on visibility, you will travel along the trail of either the northeast or southwest section of the caldera rim. Both have amazing views of the twin lakes inside the Sete Cidades caldera. Lunch is usually taken in a local restaurant.
Leaving the caldera, you will go down to the coast and visit Mosteiros Village and Escalvado viewpoint. There is the option to swim in the natural pools warmed by a thermal spring on the coast of Ferraria, as well.
Returning to Ponta Delgada, you will cross Arrifes, an area of pastureland where most of the milk on the island is produced.
