The National Museum of Korea is the flagship museum of Korean history and art in South Korea and is the cultural organization that represents Korea. Since its establishment in 1945, the museum has been committed to various studies and research activities in the fields of archaeology, history, and art, continuously developing a variety of exhibitions and education programs. In 2012, it was reported that since its relocation to Yongsan District in 2005, the Museum has attracted an attendance of 20 million visitors. A poll of nearly 2,000 foreign visitors, conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in November 2011, stated that visiting the Museum is one of their favorite activities in Seoul.

After the National Museum, you will go to the Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art. The three buildings were the products of the world-class architects, Mario Botta, Jean Nouvel and Remment Koolhaas. Each building represents its theme and the futuristic sense for art. As a museum, Leeum’s most urgent tasks are to keep in step with current times, to lead the preservation and production of culture, and to communicate with the public. To these ends, Leeum continuously explores timely themes and major artists through exhibitions, academic events, and other programs for the public, directly incorporating the most advanced research in diverse areas, including exhibition, education and art preservation.

After visiting the Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art, you will visit the Seoul Museum of History. The museum captures the traditional culture of Seoul. Vestiges from the prehistoric era to modern Seoul are on display. The museum was renovated with modern updates in May 2002, seventeen years after opening. The main exhibit halls are on the third floor. Many of the Joseon Dynasty relics were donated during the Relic Donation Campaign. Also, the landscape of Seoul is recreated when it was the capital of the Joseon Dynasty. Another exhibit showcases the daily life of the Seoulites, while another presents items through an online cyber museum. The first floor has many convenient facilities such as a coat check and the Kids Corner playroom. The Special Exhibition Hall, the Exhibition Hall for Donated Relics, and Museum Shop where cultural products are produced and sold, are also on the first floor.

After your long morning walking around museums, you will be dropped off at one of two locations, Myeong-dong area or Seoul City Hall.
