In the afternoon head towards the famous La Mortella botanic gardens, created by English composer Sir William Walton and his wife who lived here from 1949. The garden features more than 300 rare and exotic plants, along with ornate statues and waterfalls.
The many areas of the garden are linked by a network of walks, paths, ramps and steps that climb the dry walls allowing the visitors to reach the upper hill, where they can enjoy breathtaking views of the Bay of Forio.

Return back to Sorrento in the late afternoon.

Return back to Sorrento in the late afternoon.Departing from Sorrento Pier. Here meet your guide, get your ferry boat tickets (own expense) and depart towards Ischia (approx. 2 hour journey). Upon arrival, enjoy a guided tour by coach of the island and relax watching the island highlights. Stop and enjoy free time for lunch before to visit on your own La Mortella Botanic Garden visit (entrance ticket at own expense). The gardens, called "La Mortella", after the wild myrtles was found growing there, has been built by Sir William Walton ad his wife Lady Susana. Started in 1956, it was created on the site of a gigantic stone quarry, and designed by English landscape designer Russell Page. Extending over an area of 16,000 square metres, these beautifully landscaped gardens, complete with pools and fountains, have thousands of unusual, rare specimens of Mediterranean climate plants from around the world.
La Mortella is divided into two parts: a lower garden, called The Valley, and an upper garden on The Hill, terraced with retaining walls. Enjoy the gardens at your leisure (approx. 2.5-hour of free time) before to head back to Ischia and board the return ferry to Sorrento at 5:20pm (the only return boat to Sorrento from Ischia).
Return to Sorrento is scheduled at approx. 7pm.
