The route travels along the upper Hudson River through the North Country of upstate New York. With this ticket, you have several options — coach seats or dome car; a day trip or overnight; one way or a round trip — that make it easy to plan your own spring or summer getaway.
In 1864, the New York Times described the Adirondacks as 'a tract of country fitted to make a Central Park for the world.' This heritage railroad connects you to some of what Adirondack Park's 6 million acres (2 million hectares) have to offer including ideal spots for canoeing, kayaking, hiking and fly fishing. Even if the outdoors isn't your thing, you can appreciate the verdant scenery from the large picture windows of the train.

If you begin in Saratoga, you'll have the chance to explore the North Creek area during a 3-hour layover in the afternoon. Take the complimentary shuttle at the depot that takes you to local attractions such as Gore Mountain for mountain biking, the Garnet Mines to gawk at giant crystals, or around town to see things like the local farmers' market open from June to October. Alternatively, start out in North Creek and arrive in Saratoga in time for dinner, then spend the night before the return trip the following morning. Take advantage of the Saratoga Casino and Raceway, Saratoga Spa State Park, Saratoga Performing Arts Center and more.
