See Vrelo Bosne park, Mostar and Pocitelj along the way on your one day excursion departing from Dubrovnik. One of the most historically interesting cities in Europe, and the capital of Bosnia and Hercegovina, Sarajevo overflows with cultural heritage. Home to Roman Catholics, Orthodox Christians, and Bosnian Muslims who have lived and warred in this city, it is often referred to as the Jerusalem of Europe, due to its traditional and religious diversity. Known for its hospitality and for being the location of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand beginning WWI, Sarajevo contains the famous Bascarsija bazaar, and elegant architecture by the Austria-Hungrian monarchy, as well as several traditional restaurants and coffee shops.
While driving along the road from Dubrovnik, there will be time to stop in the medieval town of Pocitelj and an optional quick stop in Mostar, before continuing along the bank of the Neretva River to Sarajevo. Once in Sarajevo, opt for a guided tour of the Old Town, including a visit to the Bascarsija bazaar (an ancient trading place for artisans), the Cathedral, an old Orthodox church containing both a museum and mosque, and Turkish house. Proceeding the tour is time to enjoy a delicious lunch before continuing towards the ˝Tunnel of Hope˝.
This tunnel, leading to a neutral zone protected by the United Nations and constructed in 1993 by the citizens of Sarajevo with limited tools, provided a way for inhabitants to receive food and humanitarian aid, as the city was entirely cut off and surrounded by Serbian forces during the war. Following the Tunnel of Hope, the journey continues to Vrelo Bosne park, containing ponds, creeks and waterfalls. A magical walk through this marvelous park is a relaxing way to end the trip before returning back to Dubrovnik.
Although your driver will not be accompanying you beyond the vehicle, he will act as a guide during the driving portion of your tour, and will be waiting until you are finished exploring at the destination.
