After the visit to Comalapa, we will be moving to the archaeological site of Iximche, a city of the post classical period, where you can visit the pyramids in honor of moon and sun, one of the oldest and most important cities of the Maya.

Time for lunch (included), and at the end of the tour transfer to Guatemala City.Your day will start with a hotel pick up in Guatemala City and transferred to San Juan Comalapa via Antigua Guatemala.
Out from the city to the village of San Juan Comalapa which is one of the most picturesque village of Guatemala.
On arrival you will be able to observe several local art galleries, where artists show their work.

San Juan Comalapa is sometimes called the "Florence of America" because of the many Kaqchikel painters living there. The town really gained its reputation by the work of Andrés Curuchich who rose to fame for his paintings depicting local village life and whose work has been displayed in galleries as far away as New York

Upon arrival in the town as we will drive past the colorful cemetery which has a mural painted by local artists running along its outer wall. The mural depicts major events in the history of Guatemala including the Maya creation story, the Spanish conquest and more recently Guatemala's civil war. This was painted by a collaboration of local artists.

Local artists display their work in household galleries and they will open their doors for visitors to see their varied and colorful artwork, we will visit some galleries.
Visit and explore the colorful market in the streets of the town and their baroque church.

After the visit to Comalapa, we will be moving to archeological site of "Iximche" a city of the post classical period, where you can visit the pyramids in honor of moon and sun, one of the oldest and most important cities of the Maya.

Iximche is a Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican archaeological site in the western highlands of Guatemala. It was the capital of the Late Postclassic Kaqchikel Maya kingdom from 1470 until its abandonment in 1524. The architecture of the site included a number of pyramid-temples, palaces and two Mesoamerican ballcourts.

Time for lunch and at the end of the tour we will go back to Antigua or Guatemala City.
