Start your tour with a pickup from the Radisson Blu hotel in Tromsø, or alternatively meet your guide and group at the Sami camp itself, roughly 10 minutes away from the city by coach. The camp is home to about 15 reindeer and, if you’re lucky, there may be some calves to see, too.
Explore the camp with your guide to learn about the reindeer and, of course, the Sami culture. For many members of the community, reindeer herding was — and in some cases still is — an important livelihood.
As you hear tales about Sami life, stop for photos with the reindeer and feed the furry four-footers some of their favorite food: moss. Learn about techniques used to catch reindeer, such as throwing a lasso, and discover fun facts about the animals themselves.
Step inside one of the camp’s lavvo to meet some of the Sami community. Hunker down by a warming fire as you listen to stories and sip on a traditional soup known as bidos. Enjoy a local drink, and listen to a joik, a traditional Sami folk song, before your tour ends.
If you have selected the Tour plus Transfer option, finish with a drop-off at the start point in Tromsø.
