On leaving Windermere in the morning you drive through the heart of the Lake District National Park, beside the lakes and through the valleys, and on towards Penrith and the North of the country.
You continue into the remote 'Debatable Lands' of the Border Reivers heading to Lanercost Priory, with time to see the church built within the priory ruins and see Sir Edward Burne Jones' windows.
You follow Hadrian's Wall, following it past 'Mile Castles' and 'Towers' to the lunch stop at 'The Roman Army Museum'. In the afternoon you continue along the 'Wall' seeing the spectacular Fell End, Sunny Rigg, Great Chester and finally Steel Rigg. You return via Alston, England's highest market town and stop at Hartside Pass to enjoy superb views towards the Lake District Fells.
